Technology Innovation Grants

Purpose: improve and expand new applications of technology
Funding: $22Million over 22 Awards
Eligibility: Only consortia may receive grants under this program. A consortium must include at least one local educational agency (LEA) with a high percentage or number of children living below the poverty line. A consortium may also include other LEAs, private schools, State educational agencies, institutions of higher education, businesses, academic content experts, software designers, museums, libraries, and other appropriate entities. Note: In each consortium a participating local education agency (LEA) shall submit the application on behalf of the consortium and serve as a fiscal agent for the grant.
Dates: Deadline is March 12, 1999 and awards are made May 28.

Star Schools Program
Joe Wilkes, Program Manager
Purpose: Mth, science, foreign languages,adult literacy
Funding:$10Million for 4-5 grants lasting 5 years.
Eligibility: Partnerships, including LEA, higher ed, adult and family ed, public broadcasting. State-wide or multi-state projects (not just one district).
Dates: Deadline is March 26, 1999; awards made May 31

Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers to Use Technology
Thomas G. Carroll, Director
Purpose: Create partnerships to provide technology, support and experience to teachers.
Funding: $75Million for 300 grants
Eligibility: higher ed in partnership with any non-profit.
Dates: Deadline is May 24, 1999 and awards are made mid-August.

Learning Anywhere, Anytime Partnership
Brian Lekander, Director
Purpose: Distance Learning. Post secondary, college, university, adult education, credit and non credit, Lifelong learning.
Funding: 25-30 grants of $100K-500K. Grants should run 3-5 years.
Eligibility: Partnership with another agency. Non-profit, colleges, national, regional
Dates: Deadline for prelim proposal is April 2. Deadline for final proposal is June 18 and awards are made at the end of July.
